Author Guide

How to create an account, submit a manuscript, upload files, respond to revision requests, and track your submission.

Role overview

As an Author, you can:

  • Submit manuscripts to one or more journals
  • Track your submission through the editorial process
  • Upload revised versions in response to reviewer feedback
  • Communicate with editors through the comments thread
You cannot see reviewer identities or read reviewer feedback until after the editor issues a formal decision (single-blind review).

Getting access

You can gain access in one of two ways:

  • Self-registration — visit the public author signup form, fill in your details, and wait for editor approval. You will receive an email when your account is activated.
  • Direct invitation — a journal editor invites you directly as a member. Follow the link in the invitation email to set your password.

Once active, log in at /login using your email and password.

Creating your first submission

Submissions are created through a three-step wizard. Click New Submission from the Dashboard or Submissions list to begin.

Step 1 — Manuscript details

FieldRequiredNotes
JournalYesSelect the target journal from the dropdown
TitleYesFull manuscript title
AbstractNoRecommended; displayed on the Details tab
KeywordsNoComma-separated terms

Step 2 — Reviewer preferences

FieldLimitNotes
Suggested reviewersUp to 3Provide name and email
Excluded reviewersUp to 2Provide email and a brief reason

These preferences are passed to the editor as guidance. The editor is not obligated to follow them.

Step 3 — Confirm

Review the summary card. Check the confirmation checkbox and click Create Draft. Your submission is created in DRAFT status — nothing is sent to the editor yet.

Uploading your manuscript

  1. 1
Open your submission and go to the Versions tab.
  2. 2
    Click Upload Version.
  3. 3
Select your file. Accepted formats: PDF or DOCX only. Maximum size: 50 MB.
  4. 4
The system checks the file size in your browser before uploading. If it passes, the server performs a second format validation.
Each upload creates a new version — previous versions are preserved and listed with download buttons.

Submitting for review

  1. 1
    Open the submission detail page.
  2. 2
In the action bar, click Submit for Review.
  3. 3
Read the confirmation dialog and click Confirm.

Your submission status changes from DRAFT to SUBMITTED. The editor is notified and your manuscript enters the review queue. You cannot edit metadata after this point unless the editor sends the submission back for revision.

Tracking your submission

The Dashboard (/dashboard) shows all your submissions grouped by status. For a full list, go to Submissions (/submissions).

Click any submission row to open the detail page, which has three tabs: Details, Versions, and Comments.

Responding to a revision request

When the editor requests a revision, you receive an email notification. The submission status changes to REVISION_REQUESTED.

  1. 1
Open the submission and read any comments on the Comments tab.
  2. 2
    Prepare your revised manuscript offline.
  3. 3
Go to the Versions tab and click Upload Version.
  4. 4
Optionally update your abstract, keywords, or reviewer preferences on the Details tab.
  5. 5
Click Resubmit in the action bar and confirm.

The submission status changes to RESUBMITTED and the editor is notified.

Withdrawing a submission

You may withdraw a submission in DRAFT, SUBMITTED, or REVISION_REQUESTED status.

Withdrawal is permanent and cannot be reversed. A withdrawn submission cannot be reactivated or resubmitted. If you want to submit the same manuscript again, you must create a new submission from scratch.

Notifications

JMS notifies you by email and in-app notification (bell icon in the top navigation) when an editorial decision is issued: Accepted, Revision Requested, or Rejected. Each notification includes the decision reason.

FAQs

Can I submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time?

Yes. JMS does not restrict simultaneous submissions. However, check each journal's editorial policy — many journals require exclusive submission.

Can I edit my submission after clicking "Submit for Review"?

No. Metadata and files are locked until the editor issues a revision request or a final decision. If you spot an error immediately, contact the editor via the Comments tab.

Can I see what reviewers said about my manuscript?

Not until the editor issues a formal decision. Reviewer identities and feedback are hidden from you until the decision is released (single-blind review).

My file upload failed. What should I check?

Ensure your file is a PDF or DOCX and is no larger than 50 MB. If it passes those checks and the upload still fails, try again or contact your journal editor.
